We data capture 3 times a year formally. 

In all lessons, students are continually assessed informally by teachers. This could be through observation, conversation, questioning etc. All these help the teacher to form a judgement on what the student knows and what they need to do to improve. In most subjects, students work through a module or a topic, which may last for a set period of time e.g. a week, half term, full term. At the end of these modules or topics students will take some form of summative assessment (E.g. test/written assessment), which will give a clear picture of what the student has learned and understood in the project they have just completed.

Attendance

Student attendance is based on attendance in school or authorised absence. If your child has had to isolate due to track and trace, this will not affect your child’s attendance. Our Lost Learning Hours Page shows you just why it is important to be in school every day! 

Behaviour and Achievement points

As per the SIMs app, this is the number of Behaviour and Achievement points your child has accumulated so far this academic year.

ATL (Attitude to Learning)

As per the report in Autumn, staff give each student an ATL grade that matches their appetite and effort in each subject area. The variation of grades are explained below:

Excellent – awarded to pupils who have shown excellent commitment to their studies. Pupils will be especially self-motivated and all work is completed to the very best of their ability.

Very Good – awarded to pupils who consistently put substantial effort into their work and show above average self-motivation. Work is completed with attention to detail.

Good – awarded to pupils whose approach to work is in line with expectations for their ability. Work in class and homework is completed to an appropriate standard and is handed in promptly.

Satisfactory – awarded to pupils whose effort sometimes falls short of expectations. Effort is inconsistent and the pupil may be coasting.

Unsatisfactory – awarded to pupils whose effort is consistently a cause for concern. Attitudes to classwork and/or homework are poor and the pupil shows little self-motivation.

Learning Context (If applicable)

If a member of staff feels the ATL needs explaining further, they may choose a code from the context options. This gives parents a bit more clarity on the ATL awarded.

Current grade

This is the current working grade your child is working at the first capture point of the year. In KS3 we use a Numeric scale which is assessed through the Age-Related Expectations of the National Curriculum. Each grade has 3 stages within a particular grade to allow a more granular assessment model. This model allows for consistency through KS3 and KS4 and supports our students’ transition in a 3 tier system.

Target Grade 

Based on historic data, prior learning and attainment and expected progress from the start of year baselines. This is an indication on where you child should be by the close of the school year.
